Institute of Modern Art Opens Exhibition with Turrbal Traditional Welcome to Country

30th of January 2021 - The Institute of Modern Art invited us to deliver the Traditional Welcome to Country at their Exhibition Opening and Program Launch. Following the opening, Indigenous artists Judy Watson and Dale Harding walked us through the exhibition with a focus on Fire, Climate and Crisis.

We thoroughly enjoyed viewing the innovative and thought-provoking pieces especially at a time when climate change is having an unprecedented impact on the planet. This gathering was also an opportunity to discuss how Aboriginal knowledge can help manage and mitigate fire risk with traditional techniques that have been used for tens of thousands of years.

It’s always a pleasure working with the Institute of Modern Art and we are very grateful for the respect that the institute shows towards Turrbal culture. The “On Fire: Climate and Crisis” exhibition is open until the 20th of March, features work from artists Gordon Bennett, Naomi Blacklock, Paul Bong, Hannah Brontë, Michael Candy, Kinly Grey, Dale Harding, Tracey Moffatt with Gary Hillberg, Erika Scott, Madonna Staunton, Anne Wallace, Judy Watson, Warraba Weatherall, Tintin Wulia, and Jemima Wyman, and is curated by Tim Riley Walsh.
