BSSSC celebrates Aboriginal culture with Welcome to Country & Language workshop

27th of January 2021 - We've been off to a busy start in 2021. Turrbal Elder Maroochy and her daughter, Baringa, recently had the pleasure of performing the Traditional Welcome to Country at the grand opening of Brisbane South State Secondary College (BSSSC) - pictured with Kirsten Ferdinands, Executive Principal.

Earlier in the day, BSSSC student ambassadors took part in a language workshop with Maroochy and Baringa to select Turrbal names for the school's houses. Since then, we are honoured that the students have selected four Turrbal words for each of their house names.

We are so grateful for the respect that BSSSC has shown towards Turrbal culture and look forward to deepening our ties with schools within the Brisbane area.
