“The Last Gundir” - A New and Exciting Fiction Novel exploring Turrbal Culture

Ever wondered what life would have been like in traditional times for the Aboriginal people of South East Queensland? How did they initiate boys to men in bora rings? Why were they always kind to strangers? What prompted Lieutenant James Cook aboard HMB Endeavour to remark "...though they may appear wretched in condition, Aboriginal people are in reality far happier than we Europeans"?

“The Last Gundir” invites you to take a journey into the region's past and learn about fascinating concepts (such as the skin moieties and totemic responsibilities of the region's first inhabitants) and thrilling festivals (such as the Bunya Nut festival - arguably the largest Aboriginal gathering on the continent before 1900). The accurate pre-colonisation maps of Meeanjin and SE Queensland region reveals a wonderful setting for the novel's plot. The story itself is a haunting tale of a young Turrbal boy whose life is changed forever when he is sung by a mingom gundir.

The Last Gundir is available at Avid Reader (West End), Riverbend Books (Bulimba), SLQ Bookshop and through the author directly for signed copies via email (nayefdin@gmail.com). E-books available on Amazon.com.au and Kobo.
